Millions of ink and toner cartridges are simply thrown away every year, ending up in landfill sites across the world. The plastics and metals they contain take thousands of years to decompose. Recycling helps prevent this. Re-using what would normally be thrown away has dramatic effects. It not only protects our environment, recycling slows mans consumption of the earths already depleted resources.
How does the recycling process work?
The cartridges are checked at the incoming inspection point to verify that they function correctly. We then clean the cartridges thoroughly to remove all the residual ink and clean the printhead. Once this is complete, the cartridges are refilled, 100% tested and taped ready for packaging. This process can take up to 3 days, but due to TRF's unique remanufacturing processes, over 90% of all cartridges collected for recycling are successfully remanufactured and sold to be used again.
Any cartridges that are unusable or damaged are then broken down and the plastics and metals that are recovered are recycled – not sent to landfill.
How do I benefit from recycling my cartridges?
We pay for virtually all ink cartridges manufactured by Hewlett Packard, Lexmark and Dell. Once you have signed up with TRF your account will enable you to print a unique freepost barcode return label. Simply place your recyclable cartridge in an envelope, attach the label and post. Once your account reaches £5 we will post you a cheque!
Unfortunately, due to the technology, we cannot recycle the majority of ink tanks manufactured by Epson and Canon.
