Seafarers UK
Registered Charity in England and Wales
no. 226446 and in Scotland no. SC038191
Seafarers UK is the country’s leading maritime charity. We are an umbrella organisation which gives grants to maritime charities in the UK and the Commonwealth. Seafarers UK is the only maritime charity supporting all three sectors of the Merchant Navy, Royal Navy and the fishing fleets.
Formerly known as King George’s Fund for Sailors, Seafarers UK was established in 1917 during World War I which saw a huge loss of lives among seafarers. As experts in the field, we understand the needs of seafarers and how money is best spent to achieve the greatest impact. Each year we give £2.5 million to over 70 maritime charities, which help provide welfare services across the whole spectrum of need to around 50,000 current and former seafarers, their families and dependents. Over the past ten years we have given around £30 million.
Seafarers and their families have specific needs created by their lifestyle, including issues like poverty and debt, feelings of isolation after a life at sea, relationship break-ups, ill health and serious injury, homelessness, depression and bereavement.
By recycling for Seafarers UK you could be helping many maritime charities – your support could go a long way and make a lasting difference.
