Heart and lung diseases are the two biggest killers and causes of disability in the UK today. Papworth Hospital, as one of the world’s foremost specialist cardiothoracic hospitals, is leading the fight against these life-changing illnesses.

The hospital treats over 50,000 patients every year from across the UK. It is also at the forefront of cutting-edge research to find new cures and treatments. Founded in 1917, Papworth has a notable history, including performing the UK’s first successful heart transplant, Europe’s first successful heart and lung transplant and the world’s first successful heart, lung and liver transplant.

Papworth Hospital Charity exists to support the work of the hospital by:

  • providing additional support and amenities for our patients and their families.
  • purchasing the latest medical equipment and funding additional training for our doctors and nurses.
  • supporting our scientists who are undertaking groundbreaking research so that these illnesses may one day become a thing of the past.

Please help us to continue to make a difference to people’s lives – not just for now, but for generations to come.
